Houston, TX
Crooks. Just plain crooks. In fact, they pretty much embody all that is bad about buying a car. Apparently nothing has changed since they were kicked out of the BBB in 2001 because of the number of complaints.
So my experience happened this last weekend. We received a letter in the mail from Randall Reed's Planet Ford on 59 stating that we would get a $50 gift card to one of our choice of eight potential retailers if we came in to test drive one of their cars.
We are looking to either buy or lease a car, and this was our first day of going to search for the right car. We stopped in and referenced this card the moment we got there. The salesman said that he would get that done right after we were done doing the test drive. We test drove a car, talked to him some more, and then went inside to get the gift card that we were offered.
At that point, a sales manager came out (typical car sales technique) to try to close us right then, to ask us if there is anything they could do to get us in a new car that day. We said that we were just browsing for now, but would be interested in buying some time in the near future.
Only then did the salesman go up to the sales desk at the front of the showroom and come back with the sad news that they had run out of gift cards.
The flat out truth is that either there never was a gift card, or they didn't feel like giving us one because they had already qualified us to figure out that we weren't going to buy that day. Con-Artists. I will never go back to their crooked dealership.
BE AWARE, THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP.
Humble Pride --- 2 years ago - quote We went to go look at a 2009 Ford Edge that was black in color. When we talked to Hector the car salesman on the phone he told us that he had a 2009 Ford Edge with around 25k miles on it and he was selling it for 21995. When we got there after taking it for a test drive we later found out it was a 2008 model during financing, not the 2009 model like he told us to get over to the dealership to come take a look at it, this is known as bait and switch. We go through financing which is when we learned out that it was a 2008 model. I asked them 4 different times I want to see a vehicle history report and they keeped on telling me that they would give it to me in a little while...it never came. I told them I didnt want a vehicle that had been in any wrecks or had been a previous rental car, plain and simple. They told me that it was a certified vehicle and they assured me that it wasnt a rental car before. Well we waited and waited for the finance guy Rob to get there. He finally comes back to the office and was like sorry I will be with you guys in a minute I had to go to my bank, even though we didnt care to here his person issues we just wanted to get into financing for this vehicle. Finally they had a new finance manager that we learned came from Georgia who was absolutely amazing. He was very friendly, polite and took very great care of us. This is one person that is hard working and deserves the best as he is the only one it seemed like that would go out of his way for us and make us feel at home. Well before we went to his office we were working with Rueben who said he was the manager of the used car lot as we were buying it used. We were negotiating the sale of the vehicle and he agrees to give me 5200 for my vehicle, with 0 down, and for the sale of 21,200 for this vehicle. Well we finally shook hands on this and agreed on a monthly rate between 379-399. When we go into the finance office the monthly rate was 589 a month, and he was only giving me 5k for my vehicle, again mid-advertising what we agreed on. The finance manager who we absolutely love went and talked with him and they finally got it back to the price we agreed on...obviously Rueben the manager there has some integrity issues going on. Well I dont have my drivers license with me and we were in a hurry to get out of there, so they agree to let us take the vehicle on a test drive, then today we were to come back and finalize the paperwork, I would bring my trade in there, and bring my drivers license so we could finalize this sale. Well I get home and come to find out after running a history report since they failed to give it to me, it was a rental car! They told me it wasn't ever a rental car...another false advertising issue and integrity issue! Well we brought it back today at the earliest chance we could and let Rueben the manager there know that we didnt want it, there was alot of integrity issues going on, was a rental and I didnt appreciate it, I went to give him the keys and he says..nope you already own the vehicle! Not even, I told him we never finalized our paperwork, I never gave my legal identification document to him, and we werent held liable for this vehicle, and put the keys on the counter. He then tells me yes you do own this vehicle and we know own your toyota celica you are trading in! I told him that isnt true, the document we only sign was a temporary document and was no binding agreement, never finalized and never signed. He then says "you can leave with your car but I promise you I will have it towed from your house tomorrow back to this lot, we own this vehicle." Im sorry but a manager that is threatening a customer isnt a good form of business especially from a legal perspective. |
★ † 12 Stones † ★ --- 2 years ago - quote that place stinks!! about 5 yrs ago we went in to get a car--they let us leave with the car without completing the financing needless to say we did not get financed--no biggie our fault right?? well except for the part where the "lost" the title to our trade in!! it took a while for us to get our trade in back |
Bliz --- 2 years ago - quote Please tell me you left with your original car! That place sucks. I had a lease and got dinged for sub-standard body work that their shop had repaired! The lease manager never returned my calls and I had to track everything down and let US Bank know where the vehicle was a week after I had turned it in! |
Humble Pride --- 2 years ago - quote Yes we left with my vehicle, they never even had my keys. We showed up tonight to finish the financing and sign the binding agreements as I didnt even have my wallet yesterday, left it at the house. So I put the suv keys on the counter and he goes, no you own it! After telling him we didnt and why, he says "you can go ahead and take your car home now...but I promise you I will have it towed from your house and it will be back in my lot tomorrow" Wow...great customer service there! No way to treat a customer like that! Come to find out that he is the head manager at that lot! He is the one with the two front gold teeth. |
jamie --- 2 years ago - quote Has anyone ever had a pleasant experience with one of the Planet dealerships? My neighbor is having issues with one of them now. He is renting from Enterprise just to go back in forth to work. Too bad he is my ex and an jerk....I might have been willing to take him to work. :) Oh, well guess Karma is a BI*CH! |
Sandyr9111 --- 2 years ago - quote Ive heard ALOT of bad things about them. Had some bad dealings with their used lot in Spring. |
jules78 --- 2 years ago - quote I have a 2008 Ford Edge that I got last November. It has had ZERO problems. I went to Al Meyer Ford in Lufkin and got one heck of a deal! I suggest going there.. If you want contact info PM me and I'll get you the info. Planet Ford does suck. I checked them out first and left within 10 minutes because the salesman was being a total a$$hole to me. I take my Edge to Planet Ford for its scheduled maintance and if you don't watch them carefully they'll even screw that up! |
Atasca Mom --- 2 years ago - quote I have a story about this place that is far worse than anything posted on this thread. I just dont want to post it because it became a legal matter and it probably isnt a good idea to post the details on an open forum. However, suffice it to say this place doesnt do background checks on their employees and bad things happen to good people. |
rEVOLution (Mod) --- 2 years ago - quote Haven't dealt with RR Ford in years but last year I went into Planet Dodge and purchased a new Caravan. It was the absolutely best car buying experience I have ever had. We were there a total three hours. There are some good dealers out there I guess it just depends on who you deal with while you are there. Maybe we just got lucky or after years upon years of having such horrible luck with dealerships God felt I was due for a good car buying experience. |
**Newlywed2008** --- 2 years ago - quote I had a friend who used to work there; he called it "Scandal Reed" instead of Randall Reed. |
achiles3602 --- 2 years ago - quote We bought our 2001 ranger edge in May of 01 and my hubby still drives it. Great deal and experience. Fingers crossed, we are negotiating a deal for an infinity fully loaded... |
Fallon --- 2 years ago - quote You really need to file a complaint with Ford as well. What he was doing was illegal. Even if you had signed all the paperwork, you do have 24 hours to get out a contract. I hope you call the State Atty Generals office. And then Ford as well. Gotta stick up for Ford folks, I have 248K miles on my 1996 Bronco. And that baby still has the original every thing:) My next car will be another Ford. Because of this, and the fact that they are not owned by the Government. |
Fallon --- 2 years ago - quote Oh dh is dying for an F250. Safest thing on the road. Well a Sherman tank may be safer...lol And the diesel engines are unreal good and reliable. We have a special towing package on ours, and I think that is why the motor has been so darn good. It has a special cooling package, similar to the diesels. And at least Ford will not have to be mass producing VW's like the other government car factories will soon have to be producing... |
bhsurf4 --- 2 years ago - quote The Dodge dealership tried that on me earlier this year! I wanted a 2008 Ram and they told me that yes they had one left. I was there in 5 minutes, and SURPRISE, they had JUST sold it! No one else was even in the dealership at the time! I went next door to Robbins and bought a 2007 with 8,000 miles on it and drove over and showed them the commision they just lost by being typical car salesmen! If they would have told me the truth, I would have probably just went in anyway and bought either an '09 or a good used one if they had it. I really don't think some of 'em can help it, they have to lie! |
Danabug --- 2 years ago - quote That is a really great deal then. haha We have some work trucks with over 300K miles on them. That would just be awesome, because by the time you have that many miles on it, it should be paid for and then you can just spend a few thousand instead of a whole new vehicle! |
Humble Pride --- 2 years ago - quote Great. thank you guys all for the help. I filed a complaint with the BBB on them, waiting to hear back from them. I talked to one of their "head" people there and let her know the story, she couldnt believe it either, then promised to give me a call back in a couple of hours...it now has been about 6 days....hmm...I guess that is part of their standard practice so they didnt even give me a call back like she promised she would after she looked into it...tells you this starts from the top over there. I filed a complaint with BBB will update you guys on the status of this, I am not looking to get anything out of this at all, I just want to put this on their record to help others see what they are doing, I am sure this trick they tried to play on us they do to alot of people to trick them into buying the vehicle and scare them that way....hoping to help out others by revealing what is happening over there, not right at all. |
sunshine1881 --- 2 years ago - quote I'll never step foot in there again. We went to look at a hybrid Escape a few months back. They wanted a commitment to buy before they would even let me test drive it. WTF. Hell no I'm not committing to buy a vehicle I haven't even test driven. |
Clown Vomit --- 2 years ago - quote They wanted a commitment to buy before they would even let me test drive it. Now THAT is hilarious. They're acting like you're trying to buy a $200K sports car. Hello? It's a fking FORD!!! They ought to be kissing the asses of anyone who even bothers to step foot in their dealership. |
Military Mom --- 2 years ago - quote I have a Ford F150, I love it as much today and the day I drove it home, it is without a doubt the best vehicle I have ever had. |
